President's Message

Fall 2022

MHSBCA Members,

Twenty-nine years ago I set my sights on becoming a teacher and a high school baseball coach.  The main reason for this decision was because of the influence that my father had on me through the game of baseball.  After taking me to many games in my youth, my father let me know when I was nine years old that it was time for me to try out for Little League Baseball.  This is where I got to play my first four years with my dad as my coach.  This time in my early life also set me on the course of this wonderful career.

I know that many of our members have similar stories of how they fell in love with the greatest sport in the world.  I am sure that a large number of these stories revolve around important family members.  The 2020 season taught us not to take baseball for granted as we were unable to have a season.  I know that this made many of us better coaches as we moved forward in our careers enjoying each day on the field even more than we ever had before.  In my case and also in many others this time away from the game was filled with phone calls, text messages, and emails to others in this brotherhood of coaching where we talked about what could have been and what we were missing out on.  This is an example of the coaching families that are developed among coaches throughout the game with the help of the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association.

At a young age, I could not have dreamed that not only would I be able to make a career out of coaching baseball, but that it would put so many amazing people in my path.  Many of these people have been placed there because of their involvement in this great organization.  I became involved in the MHSBCA fifteen years ago which allowed me to take my coaching abilities to the next level because of things that I learned at our annual clinics.  This membership also helped me make connections with many great coaches around the state of Missouri and beyond.  Because of these relationships, my teams have been able to travel throughout the state to play teams we would have otherwise never been able to match up with.

As I begin my term as president of the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association, I challenge each and every member to reach out to other coaches throughout the state and promote our organization.  Also, take advantage of the many opportunities that are afforded by your membership.  Get kids recognized for their classroom work by nominating them for Academic All-State recognition and for their on-field performances by nominating them for All-State or Senior All-Stars.  Attend the meetings to help select these teams and honor all of the deserving young men.

If any of you ever have any questions or concerns, please reach out to any members of our Executive Board.  All coaches are welcome to attend our Executive Board meetings to see how things work and to offer suggestions.  We welcome the voices of all of our members.

Thank you to all of our current and past leaders.  It was an honor to serve under Michael Minner for the past three years.  Many great things were accomplished as he led us through a pandemic and kept things running smoothly.  Also a big thank you to our Executive Director Bill Seamon and Executive Secretary Janet Seamon.  Because of their hard work and dedication, the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association continues to be one of the best organizations in the nation. None of what we do could be accomplished without them.

MHSBCA President,
